‘Stone the Crows’
This phrase seems to find its origin in Australia and has been widely used in England to express extreme surprise. Crows are intelligent birds. They are wily and will eat almost anything. They are very hard to get rid of. There is some speculation that the phrase was first used to refer to the action of ridding sheep farms of the predatory birds, which would kill and eat the newborn lambs. To prevent this travesty, the children were sent out to gather stones… I know of a Protector of little lambs who still sends out his children to stone the crows…
“I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” -- John 10:11
