My Dream

My heart beat hard

against my ribs

the sound of footsteps

near my bed.

I threw the covers off my legs

and stood, amazed

on dirty ground.

the soil was soaked in blood

the air reeked of cries

Screams and cackles

howled like wind

and the beating of my heart

thump, thumped,

thump thumped.

Fog obscured my view at first

but then the curtain lifted.

Up the hill, my eyes were drawn

where the blood flowed down

down, down...

Sudden light burst on my sight

I had to shield my eyes.

Blinding rays shone past the wood

that stood

at the top of the hill.

I didn't understand at first

but a voice followed the light.

"The blood is mine,"

he said.

"I bled, and died,

and the Universe cried,

But I rose up again."

His hand reached down

and then I knew -

I'd heard his voice before.

The blood soaked ground began to sway

every thing was falling away.

I had to take his blood soaked hand...

or sink into oblivion.

And when I chose

to grab hold of him,

his eyes locked on mine.

"Welcome home,"

he said.

When I awoke,

the light shone through

my window...

One hand came up to shield my eyes -

bloodstained hands...

The dream was real.
